In 2003 and 2004 the 160 member Citizens Assembly on Electoral Reform conducted an extensive study into electoral systems over a period of a year. The process involved study, public consultation, and the design of a new electoral system called BC-STV, or Single Transferable Vote. This new system promises more fair voting outcomes, better local representation and a more consensual politics. A referendum to accept BC-STV will be a part of the provincial election on May 12th of this year.
